What Does it Mean to Have the “Best IVF Success Rates”?

Posted on September 27, 2021 by Inception Fertility

In the United States, all clinics that perform assisted reproductive technology are required to report success rate data to the federal government in a standardized manner under the Fertility Clinic Success Rate and Certification Act of 1992.[1] This data is collected and catalogued by the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), the primary organization of professionals dedicated to the practice of in vitro fertilization (“IVF”) or assisted reproductive technology (ART).

Each year, SART publishes the SART Clinic Report, a comprehensive report designed to emphasize the optimal outcome of an egg retrieval – the live birth of a healthy baby born at full term. This data can be used to determine the best IVF success rates at clinics in New York City. NYU Langone Fertility Center’s SART Clinic Report can be found here. Should you find understanding or interpreting this data difficult or confusing, SART provides useful resources explaining the report, available here.

While SART data provides useful insights into IVF success rates, it only offers one part of the complex picture. It’s hard to quantify what “best” really means, and comparing clinic success rates may not be meaningful as treatment approaches and entry criteria for IVF vary across clinics in New York City.

At NYULFC, our first job is to support our patients fully as they become educated about their options. This includes providing every patient with an objective and thorough overview of their fertility and reproductive health, evaluating each patient’s individual fertility needs, and reviewing each relevant treatment's success statistics, time frame and associated risks.

We understand that fertility treatment is often an emotional as well as a medical decision, therefore our patients and physicians work as a team to develop treatment plans based on the patient’s family building goals, diagnosis and expected outcome. We strive to provide, to the best of our ability, the most comprehensive care possible based upon an honest and transparent assessment of fertility health, and to advise accordingly on the appropriate course of care for each patient. This approach is not only the foundation of our care philosophy at NYULFC, but contributes to our overall clinic success rates.

If you’re interested in learning more about the care provided at NYULFC or have questions about our success rates, we invited you to schedule an introductory consultation with a member of our team of world-class physicians.
